How did your career in music start?

The first time I remember being really intrigued by music was watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off when I was a kid. When he got up on the float at the end and started singing ‘Twist and Shout’ by The Beatles I was like, I want some of this. That was about 1991 I’d say. I’ve been performing since I was a teenager, probably 25 years or so. Crazy.

What are you working on at present?

My most recent release was my album, ‘Written & Underlined’, which was nominated for ‘Best Album’ at the NI Music Prize last year. My current plans are to release a few co-writes I’ve been working on with other musicians and record and mix an EP just myself, which I’ve never done before.

What do you think of the music scene in Belfast?

There are a load of great bands and writers and festivals in Belfast at the moment. I’d really encourage people to have a look at the local scene. I guarantee there’ll be something for you in there.

What’s your favourite thing about Belfast’s Maritime Mile?

It’s a beautiful and really interesting spot. There’s always something different to see and different people of all kinds there. It has to be said, the slushy selection in the Spar is spot on too. I’ve performed in a few areas along the mile and it’s a good opportunity for people to hear my tunes. I love it down at the Nomadic especially.
