Tell us a bit about yourself. What is your job role and how long have you been working / playing for the Belfast Giants? What’s your favourite part of the job?
My name is Matt Pelech and I am a defenceman for the Belfast Giants. The 2019/20 season was my first year with the Giants. My favourite part of the job is working in a team environment and being able to earn a living playing a game I love.
What been your most memorable moment with the Belfast Giants?
My most memorable moment with the Giants would be the first game I played with them. It was the first game of the group stage of the Champions League. We were at home against Liberec and we were underdogs. We grinded the whole game, frustrated the other team, and came out with a huge win.

Walk over the bridge and into the city centre with my wife and enjoy Belfast. Tons of good restaurants to eat and drink at. Mondays is usually our day off and more times than not we will go to La Taqueria with some of my other teammates.
Being an ice hockey player, must be very challenging how do you spend your spare time?
I am enrolled in Ulster University so I spend a lot of my spare time trying to not fall behind on school work. I also enjoy watching sports, baseball being my favourite.
What’s your favourite thing about living / working on the Maritime Mile?
I love being by the water. It’s great being close to the city centre and the SSE so we never have to travel far.
