STEM activities on Belfast’s Maritime Mile this summer
This summer, families are invited to join W5’s Learning and Engagement Team for an exciting programme of free hands-on STEM activities on the Maritime Mile.
Taking place at the SoundYard beside Odyssey as part of ‘Sundays on the Maritime Mile’, From the Harbour to the Moon explores the fascinating connections between Belfast’s maritime heritage and the future of space exploration.
Through interactive challenges and creative experiments, families will discover how the knowledge and technologies developed through shipbuilding, navigation, ports and ocean science are helping shape humanity’s next great journeys - to the Moon, Mars and beyond.
Visitors can drop in and take part in a range of short, hands-on activities including plotting a route from Belfast Harbour to a lunar base, piloting robotic explorers, launching rockets from the waterfront and experimenting with communication systems.
Along the way, families will explore how skills rooted in maritime industries continue to drive innovation today, demonstrating how these sectors are innovative, technological, future-focused and central to sustainability and exploration on Earth and beyond.
