Day 2

  • Discover your family’s history at PRONI

Day 1: Morning – Chill

Grab breakfast at Papercup at the marina and take in the views of Titanic Quarter whilst enjoying tasty homemade food. Then, stroll through Titanic Quarter to discover the Glass of Thrones trail. The Titanic Film Studios was the home of the HBO series Game of Thrones for all eight seasons, beginning filming in 2011. Game of Thrones fans will recognise their favourite characters and moments in the specially crafted stained-glass windows installed around Belfast to celebrate the series being shot in Northern Ireland. Three of the windows can be seen close to Titanic Belfast so go get your picture taken with them! While you are doing that you can take in the sights and sounds of the area, full of unique maritime history and the sense of freshness that only waterfronts bring.

Day 1: Afternoon - Dive

Jump into an adrenalin-fuelled afternoon of indoor skydiving at We Are Vertigo – flying without wings, without an aeroplane, without anything but the power of a 120mph wind. This is Ireland’s only Skydiving Centre – unique and thrilling. We Are Vertigo have cranked up the excitement and as well as the skydiving challenge you can tackle the Titanic Quarter Inflatable course with its brand-new mechanical masterpiece, the Dizzy X. Don’t ask, just do!

Day 1: Evening – Eat

Time to relax and dine in style at Drawing Office 2 in the Titanic Hotel Belfast. This is where the ship was designed and where you can round off your day in luxury. Maybe a cocktail to start in the spacious and airy bar area, followed by a unique meal with the finest locally sourced ingredients, as you look out beyond Titanic Belfast and the slipways to the views across Belfast Lough.

Day 1: Overnight - Sleep

You are already checked-in to the Titanic Hotel where you have enjoyed an amazing evening meal, so, relax and enjoy your surroundings. You have nowhere else to unless you fancy an evening stroll on the slipways and there may be time for one final nightcap at the beautifully designed bar, before you call it a day and sink into a luxury room upstairs.

Day 2: Morning Wander

The Titanic Hotel Belfast is the original red brick building where naval architects, marine engineers and draftsmen were responsible for the design of the ships. Everywhere you look you will see glimpses of the past and feel the heritage of Belfast’s incredible industrial past. So, take your time to absorb the atmosphere inside and out. Its public spaces are decorated with vintage posters, rare historical photos and contemporary artworks amidst the architectural features and artefacts that have been so beautifully preserved in the hotel.

Day 2: Afternoon - Discover

When you are finished taking in the history of the titanic you can nip across the road and find out a bit about the history of your own family at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. PRONI is the official archive for NI, holding over 3 million public and privately deposited records and it makes the archive available for present and future generations. First, you might want to grab a bite to eat at PRONI’s heritage café before exploring its archives to see what you can discover. It might be best to go with a bit of a plan so check out the PRONI web site and see what’s there that might interest you.
